Arkimedes battery characteristics

The batteries provided by Arkimedes are top branch and are based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology. LFP batteries are much safer, more sustainable and have a longer cycle life than Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries.

Good Performance

The energy and power densities of LFP systems are generally lower than those of NMC batteries.

However, the densities of Arkimedes battery systems are nearly equal to those of NMC due to recent optimizations in electrode and cell designs.

High Efficiency

Arkimedes batteries have high round trip efficiencies due to the minimalized internal resistances and optimized battery cells.

Arkimedes Battery Management System (BMS) operates each battery pack individually to ensure they operate at the highest possible efficiency.

Higher Safety

Arkimedes provides LFP batteries, which are safer than other Li-ion battery technologies like NMC due to the higher stability of the LFP material. The battery management system (BMS) helps prevent thermal runaway, while built-in safety features like fire extinguishing systems in large-scale storage batteries add extra protection.

Sustainable and long cycle life

The LFP-batteries of Arkimedes consist of less critical and polluting materials than NMC-batteries. Furthermore, the LFP-battery endures less stress during operation resulting in a long battery life.

Applications

The batteries of Arkimedes can be widely used in all sorts of situations

Arkimedes batteries can be used for many applications, ranging from energy security to energy trading. Each application requires its own battery specifications, such as storage capacity and power output.

Off-grid electricity supply

Not having access to electricity is, in many situations, problematic. This can be (temporarily) due to net congestion or the absence of an electricity grid nearby. Examples are construction yards, festivals, off-remote locations, residential areas, or companies waiting to get connection to the electricity grid. In these cases, installation of a battery is a good and time-effective solution. These batteries can be provided by Arkimedes and can be bought or leased (short and long term). The batteries could be charged with locally generated renewable energy from solar cells or charged with electricity provided by the electricity trucks of Arkimedes.

Stabilisation of the (local) electricity grid

The implementation of renewable energy makes the electricity grid unstable due to its highly fluctuating behaviour. These fluctuations greatly affect the grid's frequency, so they need to be counterbalanced in order to maintain a stable grid. Batteries are very capable of neutralizing these fluctuations due to their fast response time and high power and energy density.

Temporarily electricity storage

Renewable electricity generated via solar cells and or windmills have significant mismatches between generation and consumption throughout the day. For example, solar cell owners want to power their electric devices after sunset with the surplus of electricity what was generated during daytime. This surplus of electricity should then be stored in a battery to prevent fines. Electricity could also be stored in the battery when the market price is low and consumed or sold back whenever the electricity price is high to save or make money.

Electricity all time

Electricity security is in many situations very important. Power shutdowns or failures often result in high costs as they stop entire production lines, cooling and other electric devices like computers. The chance of a power shutdown is increasing due to the implementation of non-continuous renewable energy (solar and wind power) into the electricity grid. When a proper battery system is installed, it will instantly take over the electricity supply during a power failure to ensure all devices will keep working. This integration allows you to have always access to electricity, even when the grid is temporarily unavailable.
